Maybe not quite as dark as the 2006 vintage was on release in terms of its color, the 2008 Wild Earth Pinot Noir still offers up a vivid dark reddish purple color.
The nose shows bright, lifted, almost floral aromatics, rose petal/violets, with an alluring spice and subtle herbal component to the darker red berry fruits on the nose. Full bodied -this shows Central Otago palate weight and concentration while still maintaining the requisite silky, sleek, palate caressing texture with smooth, riper tannins that makes Pinot Noir so captivating. The fruit, a combo of red and black berries, is primary and juicy with spicy backdrop as well as ever so slight touch of chocolaty oak peeking up through as well that adds a touch of savoriness.
Top Pinot Noir in the Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting. 94/100 from Bob Campbell.
Gold at the NZ International Wine Show.
Made from grapes sourced from their Bannockburn and Lowburn vineyards in Central Otago. "Richly-textured Pinot Noir with layers of dark fruit and spices. Very impressive wine with masses of fruit and an appealing warmth. Hearty Pinot Noir for mid-winter drinking with or without food. " 94/100 Bob Campbell.
This should only continue to get better with time, and evolve beautifully over the next 3-4 years.
For just NZ$ 38. A real burgain.
